Spoilsport... what a season!

To our friends and agents around the world thank you for your support we’ve had a great season.

Since moving Spoilsport from Townsville to Cairns in March, Mike Ball has never looked back.  Spoilsport has provided an extra touch of luxury to the special Mike Ball liveaboard service maintained for many years by Supersport.

With all diving conducted north of Cooktown divers have enjoyed spectacular diving with a wide marine life bio-diversity on the Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea .

Adventurous divers are satisfied with large marine life encounters, including dozens of reefs sharks, silver-tips, hammerheads and manta rays at remote Coral Sea sites. Back at the northern Ribbon Reef pinnacles and passes on the Great Barrier Reef divers are often engulfed within large schools of yellow snapper and silver trevally. Amongst the coral heads diver friendly butterfly fish, mantis shrimp, and the highly prized leaf and lacy scorpion fish can be found.

This was the eleventh year Mike Ball Dive Expeditions crew and guests assisted the James Cook University Minke Whale research program. All guests were encouraged to partake in the research program and rewarded with fantastic photographs of their close encounters.

While coral bleaching at Flinders Reef precipitated Spoilsports move north to Cairns it is great news that the prime Ribbon Reefs sites are in superb condition and the high fish aggregations are a direct benefit of this areas Marine Park ‘no take’ Green Zone designation. Information from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority confirm that the hard coral cover of both inshore and offshore reefs of the Cooktown/Lizard Island region has increased in recent years.
