Two words.. WHALE SHARK would be used to describe what a great expedition this was. Magic Land at Bowl Reef was the site and the only disappointment was that only Marc and Nathalie were the only ones who saw it and didn't they let us know it when they got back on board. Jealous faces were seen all over the place and the only words spoken were "where's the proof?". From all descriptions it was definitely one big whale shark. Gray reef sharks were a highlight at AIMS Bommie with numerous being spotted.
Our passengers ranged from all over the world including the USA, UK, Belgium, Australia, Sweden, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, France, Israel and even Malta and were treated to great visibility and nearly no current for the whole expedition which made for some awesome diving.
Turtles, sharks, schools of bump head parrot fish, juvenile barramundi cod and loads of nudibranchs and flat worms were just some of the aquatic life seen.
Stuart and Camilla from the Gold Coast were astounded when they saw a white-tip reef shark go into a cavern and quickly came backing out with one of the famous coral trout chewing on it's nose.
Congratulations to Marc from France who won the Guest Photo Competition with his great photo of a Christmas tree worm. by Daniel Foote |

What an expedition! With fantastic weather and great visibility at Wheeler Reef mixed together with a great bunch of passengers from Australia and the USA made it an expedition not to forget. The SS Yongala was, as usual, awesome with the biggest complaints being from photographers who couldn't take a photo of the wreck due to the amount of fish life.
Can't wait to see you all again soon! by Daniel Foote |
