Spoilsport - 05 March, 2007

Off with 24 guests for their flight home and we welcome another 24 onboard for their adventure. The good thing about the low level Great Barrier Reef flight is that you get to see the reefs that you will be diving in the coming days.

Once onboard and the bags stowed we were off to the world famous Cod Hole with great conditions and good visibility. The potato cod were particularly friendly this day and some said that they had extra dive buddy with them the entire dive. The group from Redcliffe Dive were very impressed with the site.

The night dive at Challenger Bay was, and always is, action packed with a lot of people performing their first night dive. What a great site for it… loads of trevally following their torch lights, sharks, turtles and lion fish to make things more enjoyable.

Day 2 at Cod Wall we found a black frog fish and a large school of buffalo parrot fish. Lighthouse Bommie had its sea snakes, turtles, snapper and trevally cruising and the afternoon and night dive site saw leafy scorpion fish and a rather large shark.

Day 3 we dived 3 different sites and all were fantastic. The afternoon was spent at the amazing Steve’s Bommie… a site I will never get sick of diving. A BBQ and drinks that evening and stories of the great dives just had over the last 3 days.

Spoilsport - 01 March, 2007

Thursday night and 28 excited passengers boarded Spoilsport. People from all over the world: USA , Mexico , Russia , Germany , England , Switzerland and more. The weather forecast wasn’t looking very impressive but we proceeded anyway. Friday morning we woke up to almost perfect conditions… the forecast couldn’t have been more wrong. Everybody was happy.

Dives at Challenger Bay and the Cod Hole were great with loads of life and playful potato cod. An overnight steam to Osprey Reef in the Coral Sea still showed good weather conditions. Sites dived there were impressive with 30-40 meters visibility and sharks aplenty. A night dive at Admiralty Anchor had a couple of manta rays playing on the surface and sharks and trevally swimming around the reef.

Day 3 we dropped anchor along the reef due to the wind but part of the adventure of it… we still had great visibility and calm conditions. The shark feed at North Horn was still as exciting as ever and the passengers loved the way the sharks change and become less aloof when food is brought out. A great fun feed. We finished the day off with a BBQ and drinks before heading in to Lizard Island for their low level Great Barrier Reef flight back to Cairns.
