Mike Ball Dive Expeditions were proud to be a major sponsor of the Cairns Underwater Film Festival's inaugural photo competition.  Over the weekend of the 7th and 8th August approximately 700 people attended the film festival.  Eight of the best short films and a slide show presentation of photographic winners from the 36th World Festival of Underwater Films, direct from Marseille in France were shown.  Local Cairns cinematographers were showcased with short films being shown by David Hannan (excerpt from Coral Sea Dreaming Awaken), Chris Sammut (Great Barrier Reef) and our very own Julia Sumerling (Manta Mating Chain & Cod Lust).  After intermission, the winners of the Underwater Photo Competition were announced.  The judges were inundated with 250 pictures entered by 35 different competitors, each vying for one of five major prizes.  Mike Ball Dive Expeditions were proud to present Vilimone Baleilevuka (Flora & Fauna category) and Christopher Guglielmo (Man & the Sea category) with a 7 night Coral Sea Safari expedition each.  The winning photos can be seen on the Cairns.com website (http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2010/08/10/121681_local-news.html)
