WEEK-LONG FAR NORTH CORAL SEA EXPLORATORY EXPEDITION!
From the dive deck – by Kerrin Jones
After spending our first two days at Bougainville and Osprey Reefs, Spoilsport headed further afield to some rarely visited sections of the Great Barrier Reef north of Lizard Island.
Strong currents provided the opportunity for some great drift dives along walls of pristine coral. One of the finds of the trip was a Hairy Ghost pipefish, spotted by an eagle-eyed guest. Another highlight was a close sighting of humpback whales, seen from the vessel.

The crew made all the difference. The hammerhead helped too, but besides the amazing dive sites, the crew was above and beyond.

Sharks, snakes and aliens
From the dive deck – by Jelle Kolet
Hammerheads, silver tips and plenty of grey reef sharks made the two days at Osprey reef a true delight for excited divers. The elegant olive sea snakes put on quite a show at Lighthouse bommie on Ribbon Reef 10. Several Octopi and cuttlefish with their alien looking appearance were seen flashing their colours at the amazing Coral kingdom.

Everything was extremely well organised. Everyone worked together like a well oiled machine. I loved that I could just relax when I got on board. I did not have to think or plan anything.
Busy at the Cod Hole
From the dive deck – by Jelle Kolet
The amount of fish congregating at the Cod Hole was phenomenal this expedition. Camouflage cod started to arrive in greater numbers for their annual spawning. The colourful sweetlips schooled together in the hundreds in preparation for a mass mating event. All this activity attracted droves of fish and plenty of sharks who are hoping for an easy feed.

From Hammerheads to Cuttlefish
From the dive deck – by Jelle Kolet
Multiple hammerheads were sighted at both Round the bend and North Horn on Osprey reef. Ticking that shark box for many divers. On the ribbon reefs cuttlefish were out in numbers. Clam beds, Goggle Gardens, Coral Kingdom and Flare Point provided a stunning back drop for these masters of disguise.
