FAR NORTH CORAL SEA EXPLORATORY EXPEDITION!

From the dive deck – by Kerrin Jones

For this special week-long expedition Spoilsport visited Bougainville and Osprey Reefs in the Coral Sea, followed by the rarely dived northern section of the GBR. Divers experienced pristine coral reefs, exciting drift dives with strong currents and some great marine life encounters, including manta rays, eagle rays, and a huge school of hundreds of bumphead parrotfish. Great weather throughout the trip made it all perfect!

Each dive site was fantastic in its own way but Gotham City at night was a highlight.

Big fish and hunting trevally

From the dive deck – by Jelle Kolet

Big animals made appearances all week. Queensland grouper, potato cod, maori wrasse and silver tips at Bougainville Reef, Osprey Reef and the Ribbons. Packs of trevally feasted on the schools of bait fish at Cracker Jack. Playful turtles at Lighthouse Bommie made it extra special for spoilt divers.

CORAL SEA MANTA ACTION!

From the dive deck – by Kerrin Jones

Great weather allowed Spoilsport to spend three days in the Coral Sea northbound, diving both Bougainville and Osprey Reefs, where we had some great encounters with several manta rays. The excellent weather continued as we made our way south down the Ribbon Reefs, with divers spotting cuttlefish amongst the excellent coral at both Coral Kingdom and Summer Bay.

Swimming with dolphins

From the dive deck – by Jelle Kolet

Big potato cod wave you goodbye at the end of your dive at Cod Hole only to be greeted by a pod of spinner dolphins of well over 50 individuals. This rare and special treat had divers buzzing for days. A manta ray made an appearance at Coral Kingdom and the ever elegant olive sea snakes put on a show at Lighthouse Bommie.
