GREAT WEATHER, GREAT DIVING!

From the dive deck – Kerrin Jones

Great weather allowed Spoilsport to spend three days in the Coral Sea this week, visiting Bougainville Reef and spending two days at Osprey Reef where divers enjoyed colourful walls with lots of sharks. Travelling south down the Ribbon Reefs of the GBR we encountered friendly potato cod at the Cod Hole, olive sea snakes and turtles at Lighthouse Bommie and well-camouflaged stonefish at Steve’s Bommie. Another great expedition!

CHRISTMAS ON THE GREAT BARRIER REEF!

From the dive deck – Kerrin Jones

Northbound, a day on the GBR was followed by two days at Osprey Reef, where highlights included the colourful sheer walls, an exciting shark feed and a manta ray sighting. Our southbound divers must have been particularly good this year, as Santa brought us three days of excellent weather and great diving on this special Christmas expedition.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ON THE GREAT BARRIER REEF!

From the dive deck – William Shelly

Steaming north overnight up to Bougianville Reef was calm and we arrived nice and early. Here we were met with perfect winds to enable us to dive at the remains of the ship Antonio Terabachia. We also discovered a new dive site, of which the coral was dense and healthy. Seeing untouched boulder corals teaming from the cliff face left the passengers fascinated. From here, we ventured to Osprey Reef, where an upwelling of nutrients attracted big marine life, and we had the special opportunity to see a Whale Shark and Manta rays. Further north we were welcomed with more glorious conditions and we re-visited a recently discovered dive site we have added to our northern expedition itinerary. Here we saw another two whales sharks and some playful dolphins. Traveling south through the Ribbon Reefs, the famous Cod Hole dive site had 40+ meter visibility.
